David and Mollyshannon Neel have been coming to Whidbey for more than ten years and made it their permanent home in 2004.
David established Island Apiaries in 2008. He first started keeping bees when he was 6 years old and has developed a keen interest in the current troubles that are plaguing bees. He is working to develop strains of bees that can withstand the pressures that varroa and nosema place on a colony. David believes that developing regional strains of bees that are more adapted to their environment is key to overcoming the hardships that todays honeybees face.
David and Mollyshannon believe that education is key to the future of beekeeping for both hobbyists and commercial apiaries. To that end, David founded the Whidbey Island Beekeepers Association.
